Stress test is tomorrow evening: the delay, how to install and what to know

Blizzard moved the test from October 19 to Wednesday, October 21. It starts at 19:00 CEST; no subscription or beta access needed, and everything is wiped afterwards.

The public stress test planned for October 19 slipped by two days. Blizzard updated its announcement on October 16; the new date is Wednesday, October 21. No reason was given beyond preparing for the November 4 launch, where demand is expected to be high.

In Europe it starts at 19:00 CEST (20:00 in Turkey); in the Americas at 2:00 p.m. PDT; Korea and Taiwan start early on October 22. Blizzard hasn't said how long it will run and notes the window may end early or run longer. Expect a short, crowded server test, not a relaxed play night.

You don't need a subscription, Game Time, an invite or beta access, just a World of Warcraft account. Install it through Battle.net: let the app update, pick World of Warcraft, open the version menu above the Play button and choose "World of Warcraft: Forever Stress Test" under In Development, then Install. Blizzard also suggests updating your graphics drivers first. When the test starts, hit Play, pick an open test realm and create a new character. Download it today and you'll be near the front of the queue tomorrow.

The test runs on the production hardware planned for launch. Forever doesn't split players across individual realms the old way; players in a region who pick the same ruleset share a single server. That's part of what tomorrow is about: how the system holds up when everyone logs in at once. Making characters, questing, grouping and trading are exactly the kind of load Blizzard wants to see.

Two things to keep in mind. The regular beta goes offline shortly before the test and comes back after it ends. And at the end of the test, every character, name and guild created on it is deleted, so a name you grab tomorrow isn't yours. For names, the real date is the reservation window opening on October 27.

If your guild is getting together tomorrow to hammer the servers, it's a decent rehearsal. Register the guild on the site now and you'll be on the board when raids open on December 9.
