Name reservations open October 27 at 18:00 CET, beta extended to October 23

Blizzard has announced the start times for Early Name Reservation. In Europe it opens on October 27 at 18:00 CET (20:00 in Turkey). North America opens at 1:00 p.m. PDT, Korea and Taiwan at 07:00 on October 28. Reservation runs until November 3.

One detail is easy to miss: the three-character limit is shared across all rulesets, not per ruleset. Create two characters on a PvP ruleset and you can only make one more on Normal or Role-Play. The limit only applies during Early Name Reservation. It's worth settling which ruleset your guild will play on before the window opens.

Accounts that pre-purchased the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack or the limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection can take part; the benefit applies only to the WoW account it was bought for. Names are first come, first served and no name is guaranteed. Names in Forever have two parts, and the full combination has to be unique in your region.

Blizzard's prep steps: update your graphics drivers, open the Battle.net app and let it update, pick World of Warcraft, choose World of Warcraft: Forever in the version menu above the Play button and install it. When it's done, hit Play, choose your ruleset and create your characters. Finish the install before October 27 and you'll go straight to character creation when it opens.

The beta also got more time: Blizzard extended it to October 23 at 10:00 a.m. PDT (19:00 CEST). Beta characters don't carry over, but there are a few more days to try the classes changed by the October 16 build.

If your guild plans a shared surname or naming theme, prepare a list with backups. The good names will be gone within minutes on October 27.
